Dreams of English Cottages

Who wouldn't want to walk up to something like this for their next vacation home?
Even though I live in a recently built home I have always believed I was meant to be born in the Baroque period. I just love the beautiful wood carvings and ornate clothing of that era. So when I found Period Living magazine on the Internet I felt right at home. Looking at how carefully space is used in these small cottages always gives me good storage ideas.
I used to read a lot of historical romances. The descriptions of the manors, gowns, artwork, etc., from England and Europe always made me yearn to be living back in that period. Of course at that young age I didn’t think about things like no electricity or heat, no hot water, no phone, TV, etc. Now that I’m an adult I’m glad I live in this era, however, historical houses still hold a special place in my heart and I sometimes wonder what it’s like living in a farm house that was built before the USA was a country.
One thing I’d love to do is spend a summer vacation in England. I think renting a home rather than staying in a hotel would be great. Period Living Magazine had a link to HomeAway where I was able to look over all kinds of homes available throughout the UK. I found a lovely stone cottage in Dorset that looks just like where I’d like to stay. It was a bit bigger than I need, but it looked exactly the picturesque old English cottage I would want to walk up to. Just like in the movies. There were lots of pictures and even reviews by previous renters.
I like the idea of renting personally owned property. Then I know that the owners can make some extra money from a home that would otherwise stand empty. So, if you have a vacation home, this might be a way to make money from your second home. If it’s a charming little cottage, especially if it has a thatched roof and a few sheep dotting the land around it, you might just find me there the next time I travel abroad. Oh, it needs to have a lovely English flower garden for me to have tea in, too.
