I’m psyched! I got the last piece I need in order to be able to make my window seat this weekend. Yesterday I stopped in at the home improvement center and bought 4 pickets, which are going to be the seat back at the end of the window seat, so I can sit and look out the window and read or study (and once I get a laptop or iPad I’ll be able to work there, too!).

Looking a little rough. My half finished reading nook and window seat.

Here’s a before shot. I got a decent start on the corner piece. It is cut to shape, painted, legs added, and foam cut, but I never got around to covering the foam or redoing the pillows, so it sort of looks hodgepodge. In front of the window are a set of little drawers that hold all kinds of small pieces for my sewing, crafting, and art projects, but the look sort of forlorne and they never did get painted.

What I’ll be adding to the picture is a bench in front of the window. Since my room is down with nature in mind, I thought it would be cute to have the backrest of pickets. That will hold up one end of the bench. Added to that will be a shelf, on the outside, to hold the plant that you see in the picture. It loves this particular window. Whenever I move it to another window, even on the same side of the house, it does poorly, so I need to keep it in the room.

Yikes! I'm feeling buried under all the foam I need for the project. I'll be glad when it's in the form of cushions and pillows!

Here’s the pile of foam I’m going to use to make the cushion and pillows for the bench. It has been piled up in my office as a constant reminder to get this project done! I’m hoping it will be warm enough this weekend for us to cut out the parts I need and put it all together. Since my birthday is coming up I thought I’d give myself a birthday present and get this area of my office finished. It will be so great when it is all done. Of course I’ll video the whole thing; take lots of pictures; and put it up here so you can see the process. I’ll also include the time it took and any problems (and their solutions) we ran into.

Woohoo! I love doing this stuff!
